The controller is one of the often-misunderstood parts of the Model, View, Controller design pattern, but its functionality is actually very simple. The controller is essentially the gatekeeper between the model and the view.
I’m going through a lot of effort to explain this because when you look at Foundation, you’ll see that it’s not quite so simple. Foundation is the next layer of API beneath AppKit and UIKit. It includes NSString, NSArray, NSDictionary, and many other low-level classes. When it comes to these classes, generally speaking, most things are supported on both Cocoa and Cocoa Touch. However, there are some notable exceptions, in particular with regard to drawing things. On Cocoa, for example, NSString has a category that gives it the ability to draw NSStrings within a view.
What all this means is that there is simply no substitute for testing your app on actual hardware. Test, and test often. Don’t wait until the last minute and test it as an afterthought. Do it daily.
