The purpose of the optimization process is to help determine realistic and practical outcomes of management decision-making and design processes. So, it is appropriate at this point to provide an overview of the optimization process. In this chapter, we discuss the general structure of the decision-making process, giving a brief description of its components and the role of optimization within that process.
Newton is an emeritus professor in the School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, University of New South Wales (UNSW), ADFA Campus, Canberra, Australia. Currently, he also holds the position of Dean at DPU International College, Dhurakij Pundit University, Bangkok, Thailand. He obtained his PhD in nuclear physics from the Australian National University, Canberra, in 1975.
