Recognized in an Associated Press newspaper story as “the wealthiest negro woman in the United States, if not the entire world,” the daughter of former slaves never forgot to show generosity to the people who needed it most.
Though it was several years after Walker’s death before African Americans were legally granted equal rights, her determination and personal achievements forced people to realize the possibility and need for 42 21st CENTURY SKILLS LIBRARY change.
