In 1952 Cecil Harvey, a founding elder of the Crossgar church, suggested that a vacant property in Whiteabbey, just north of Belfast, might be suitable. The former police station and court house was nothing like as grand as its former purpose suggests, but it was solid and had a large meeting room. It never prospered. Despite the best eVorts of lay preacher George Hutton, the founding membership of 5 grew to only 30 after Wve years.
