Ideas and “World Soul” Nature as a philosophical issue only slowly entered Schelling’s range of concerns. His earliest writings invariably paid tribute to “noumenal” or transcendental consciousness (in Kant’s sense) and to the constitutive productivity of subjectivity or the ego (in Fichte’s sense).
